- Hotel is only property in Montreal to be recognized -

MONTREAL, QC, April 17, 2009 – Hotel Nelligan was distinguished as the only property in Montreal and one of two in Quebec to be selected for National Geographic Traveler’s second annual “Stay List”. Editors of the prestigious American travel magazine reviewed hundreds of properties before determining the top “129 Hotels We Love”. The 2009 “Stay List” debuted in the April issue of National Geographic Traveler and includes properties in the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean.

“We are thrilled and honoured that Hotel Nelligan has earned this designation from such a discerning panel of travel experts,” said Dimitri Antonopoulos, Vice President of Marketing, Hotels and Restaurant Development for the Antonopoulos Group, the hotel’s proprietor. “With its exquisite blend of European elegance, modern luxury and personalized service, Hotel Nelligan captivates visitors and truly offers an incomparable travel experience.”

To find these distinct hotels, Traveler’s editors tapped into the collective experience of veteran journalists, inveterate road warriors and local experts. Editors based nominations on key criteria including: hotel engagement with the local community, sustainable practices that respect the region and the property’s ability to capture the spirit of its setting. Further research and detailed questionnaires winnowed hundreds of submissions down to a collection of 129 hotels.

"The hotels on our ‘Stay List’ don't just reflect their surroundings—they help define them," said Sheila Feldman Buckmaster, Traveler Senior Editor. "What they all have in common is a transcendent vision that goes beyond traditional hotel-keeping. This mindset is what gives these hotels their sense of place. Make no mistake: you'll sense the vibe at once. And after your stay, you'll leave with the kind of insight only soulful places can provide."

Named in honour of 19th century Quebecois poet, Émile Nelligan, Hotel Nelligan is situated in the heart of Old Montreal. Comprised of three carefully preserved 19th-century heritage buildings, the boutique hotel embraces the city’s historic past while offering the highest level of modern comforts and amenities. A four-star, four-diamond property, Hotel Nelligan also earned a place on Condé Nast Traveler’s 2009 Gold List, and won consecutive TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice Awards for Best Luxury Hotels in Canada.
